NEW SONG: Shearwater "Rooks"

Shearwater's breath-taking album "Palo Santo" would have been high up on my 2007 Best Albums list had it not been a re-release (re-released in 2007 by Matador, it was originally released in 2006 by Misra Records). That being said, I am eagerly anticipating their latest release "Rook" which drops June 3rd. If this song, "Rooks", is any indication of what we can expect from this newest album then expect it to rank high on THIS year's list. Jonathan Meiburg's voice keeps getting better every album, and this song really showcases it. Recommended!

Retread Sessions & In Context: brought to you by Austin's KUT 90.5 FM and Super!Alright!

A little while back I posted about the "Burn To Shine" series which features artists performing in small, intimate spaces, and I just recently discovered the KUT 90.5 (Univ. of Texas public radio) & Super!Alright! (Collective of audio & visual media artists) online series, "Retread Sessions", which seeks to document musicians in a similar type of intimate setting. The first few sessions showcase some of my favorite bands including Shearwater (!!), YACHT & Red Before Black (whom I love). The first three sessions are online now (I've got a few of them below), check them all out here.
KLRU (Austin, TX - PBS affiliate) is also hosting their "In Context" series there as well, which showcases artists of all kinds focusing primarily on process.

Both KUT 90.5 & KLRU are non-profit public media outlets, they depend on donations to survive & to continue to bring you wonderful performances like these, for FREE. So if you have some extra money lying around, and you were wondering what to spend it on....please stop by their respective websites (which you can find below) and drop a few bucks their way.

Matador to release expanded edition of Shearwater's "Palo Santo"

Recent Matador signees, Shearwater re-recorded/remastered their 2006 album "Palo Santo" and it will be available to us (the eager public) on April 10th. Apparently this was the band's idea not the label's, and to quote them: "...we're proud to say that this is Palo Santo as we always hoped it would be". I heard they were amazing live, as told to me by some SXSW attendees. Ah, yet another reason to save my damn money!! I was hoping that they would be heading through the Atlanta area sometime soon, but no luck. Oh well. I still haven't seen them or Will Sheff's other band, Okkervil River. So if any members, of either band reads this, please play Atlanta. Please.

Here's a track off the newly re-recorded "Palo Santo".
