FRIENDLY REMINDER: Team Clermont's 10th Annual Summerfest AND Athens Popfest are coming up soon!!

Just a quick reminder that Team Clermont's 10th Anniversary Athens Summerfest/Blue Ribbon Ball is next week, July 25-28 (you can check my previous post for details). Athens Popfest is a week after that, Aug. 8-11 (you can check it's previous post for details as well). Both festivals are sporting some incredible bands: Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Daniel Johnston, Arizona, The Castanets & Phosphorescent, Deerhunter, The Starlight Mints, Cinemechanica, The Postmarks, and many, many, many, many more. I for one am totally hyped to see some great music, in a great town, in some of the best venues. I can't wait.

The Coathangers will take over the world on September 4th. Alright, maybe only 3/4 of the world. But I'm pretty sure that the other 1/4 sucks.

The Coathangers are finally set to release their self-titled debut (via Rob's House Records) which drops like a bomb on September 4th. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to purchase it through the Rob's House website or at Criminal Records. They're currently on tour with fellow Atlantans AND "hardest working band at SXSW", The Black Lips (tour dates below). You can download some MP3s over at Cable and Tweed, which I suggest you do, because these girls play some fantastically super-fun music. We love ya' Candice!! Here's a video of a live performance of "Never Wanted You" @ The Earl in Atlanta. Enjoy, bitches!!

TOUR DATES:
07/19 Hoboken, NJ Maxwell’s w/ The Black Lips
07/20 Brooklyn, NY Silent Barn w/ The Black Lips
07/22 Philadelphia, PA Johnny Brenda’s w/ Marnie Stern

VIDEO: The Besnard Lakes "For Agent 13"

The Besnard Lakes latest album "...Are The Dark Horse" is a serious contender for one of my top five albums this year, and this video for one of my favorite songs off it "For Agent 13" is pretty damn cool.

Of Montreal - HALLOWEEN SHOW!!!

So for those of you who didn't get tickets to those sold-out Smashing Pumpkins shows, or were unwilling to dish out $52-$102 for tickets, OR could give a shit about Billy "I want your money" Corgan...then get ready to get happy. Of Montreal is playing a Halloween show at The 40 Watt Club in Athens, GA for what I can guess will be around $15-$20. Plus, I can guarantee that Kevin Barnes' costumes will be WAYYY better than that matrix-kimono Billy's been sportin' lately. Like Flaming Lips' shows, audience participation is welcomed by Of Montreal, so get to finding a costume soon before all the giant lobster arm claws are taken.

Smashing Pumpkins, Explosions in the Sky ATLANTA HALLOWEEN SHOW

Adding to an already impressive lineup of recent opening bands (Deerhunter & Celebration), Smashing Pumpkins are bringing Explosions in the Sky on tour with them this October. There will be two dates here in Atlanta, including a show on Halloween. Smashing Pumpkins on Halloween? Sounds fun. As long as we get to set bags of poo on fire too.

Five NEW Bright Eyes videos!

Again, muchas gracias to MOKB for the heads up on these. Bright Eyes' UK label Polydor commissioned these five videos from his newest release, Cassadaga. Enjoy!

NEW Maritime song!!

Maritime's "We, The Vehicles" is one of my all-time favorite albums, and it ranked pretty high on my "2006 Best Of" list. So it's no surprise that news of a new song is a pretty big deal around these parts. Mad props to MOKB for hooking us up with this new tune, "For Science Fiction" from the forthcoming album "Heresy and the Hotel Choir". It's a little more "Promise Ring" than usual, but it's more than whet my appetite for the whole album.

The New Pornographers add dates to fall tour

Is it just me or has the latest album from the Pornographers taken a long while to grow on you? It just didn't hit me right off the cuff like previous ones. I am started to dig it now though, with the possible exception of some of the Dan Bejar fronted tunes. His voice really grates, sorry Dan. That said, I AM looking forward to seeing them live again...especially Neko, rawrrrr!
