Thanks to the Criminal Records newsletter for the heads up on this:
"On Tuesday, 7/17/07, our dear friend John Stabb was physically assaulted, just a block away from his home, by a group of 5 teenage thugs. John will be undergoing extensive facial surgery and an undetermined hospital stay (hopefully short, fingers crossed here).
With mounting medical bills, potential lost wages and limited insurance benefits we are pulling together all our resources in an effort to limit this burden for John and his wife Mika."
You may know John Stabb as the front man for one of the BEST hardcore bands ever, Government Issue. Head over here, where you can make a PayPal donation directly to JohnStabbBenefit@aol.com. Please help out if you can.
Another way to help is to donate some items to the e-Bay auction that is being set up by volunteer James Sinks for this worthwhile cause. To donate items please contact James at obik@dementlieu.com. Send auction items or other donations by mail to:

Man Man cover Etta James' "I'd Rather Go Blind"
Man Man has made a cover of the Etta James song, "I'd Rather Go Blind" available for free download on their Myspace page. But because I know how much it sucks to have to click on a bunch of things before you get stuff, I've made the song available here. Only two clicks instead of four, and less clicks means you win.

FIRST LISTEN: Magic Weapon
First off, thanks to YANP for the heads up on this band. Magic Weapon is a "Montreal supergroup with tremendous potential and a rad band name, featuring members of Sunset Rubdown, Shapes and Sizes, Think About Life, and Miracle Fortress." Hmmm, sounds good. I'm just now getting around to listening to the few songs floating around, and so far it's keeping me interested but not blown away. I'll keep ya' posted if things change. As always, check out the songs and make up your own mind (there are two more songs on their Myspace page as well). Their S/T ep will be available Oct. 8th (information on where to purchase it is available on their Myspace page).

Califone, Andrew Bird, Mark Kozelek, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah on HBO Documentary Soundtrack
The soundtrack to the HBO documentary "The Trials of Darryl Hunt", is set to be released on August 7th and features music from some fine indie & hip-hop artists (some of which is exclusive to this soundtrack) including: M. Ward, Califone, Portastatic, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Andrew Bird, Mark Kozelek, Margot and the Nuclear So & So's, Starsailor, The Last Poets (feat. Dalek), Dead Prez & Ras Kass.
"This powerful documentary tells the incredible story of Darryl Hunt, a black man who spent twenty years in prison after being wrongly accused of killing a white woman. All net proceeds from the sale of this soundtrack will be donated to The Darryl Hunt Foundation, which works to protect wrongly convicted individuals."
