First off let me say that last night's Animal Collective show was killer. Bradford from Deerhunter thought so too. People must really be catching onto AC, because last night's show was sold-out. I was really surprised how many people were there, not that they aren't deserving of the attention, but most people's taste usually sucks...so kudos to those came last night to see one of the best bands around. One of my friends sent me a recording of last night's show, but I have no idea who recorded it (I like to give credit where it's due, but I just don't have a name..sorry). Likewise, the above photo is not mine. It was found on this here Flickr page (BTW if you don't want me to use your photo just let me know).
HERE ARE A FEW MP3s FROM LAST NIGHT'S SET, ENJOY!!

Hotel Chevalier
Wes Anderson has made Hotel Chevalier, a 13-minute intro for his upcoming film, The Darjeeling Limited, available as a free iTunes download. Get it here.
Not to cheapen what should be another wonderful Wes Anderson film, but Natalie Portman has her first nude scene in "Hotel Chevalier". Um, so yeah.

GREAT NEW MUSIC: Manchester Orchestra "I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child"
I've just been introduced to one of my new favorite bands, Manchester Orchestra. Their fantastic debut, "I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child" has been in some heavy rotation over the past week. Musically speaking, "I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child" is all over the place (from all-out rockers to quiet & fragile acoustic numbers), but the disjointedness reflects a bumpy roadmap of emotions where the common thread between them is the brutally honest way they are portrayed. It's a part of what sets this album apart from so many: a visceral & scathing honesty. With some songs I cringe a little, because I feel like I'm invading someone's private journal. But even if it is just a collection of fictional stories, the fantastic way they're told comes across instead as personal recollection. That being said, I have to say that this is one mature album. Yes, it's true they have an average age of 19, but this is a mature album for someone of any age. And of course with this being their debut album, we can all look forward to what they have in store for us with next one. This album is highly recommended!

Retread Sessions & In Context: brought to you by Austin's KUT 90.5 FM and Super!Alright!
A little while back I posted about the "Burn To Shine" series which features artists performing in small, intimate spaces, and I just recently discovered the KUT 90.5 (Univ. of Texas public radio) & Super!Alright! (Collective of audio & visual media artists) online series, "Retread Sessions", which seeks to document musicians in a similar type of intimate setting. The first few sessions showcase some of my favorite bands including Shearwater (!!), YACHT & Red Before Black (whom I love). The first three sessions are online now (I've got a few of them below), check them all out here.
KLRU (Austin, TX - PBS affiliate) is also hosting their "In Context" series there as well, which showcases artists of all kinds focusing primarily on process.
Both KUT 90.5 & KLRU are non-profit public media outlets, they depend on donations to survive & to continue to bring you wonderful performances like these, for FREE. So if you have some extra money lying around, and you were wondering what to spend it on....please stop by their respective websites (which you can find below) and drop a few bucks their way.
