Two great Eenie Meenie bands: Division Day & Great Northern
The debut album from Division Day, "Beartrap Island", is a true amalgamation of many different sounds, from driving post-punk (Dismemberment Plan, Maritime) to upbeat pop (Yo La Tengo) to gently sweeping melodic numbers (Beach Boys). This album was originally self-released in 2006, but I didn't get it until it's recent re-release (Oct. 2) on Eenie Meenie Records. As much music as I listen to, there is always something I inevitably miss. But now you have no excuse, because this album comes recommended and there's even a couple of MP3s below for you to download. Get to it!!

Great Northern have crafted some damn fine pop songs on their new album (also out on Eenie Meenie Records), "Trading Twilight For Daylight", which kept me glued from the first song to the last. At times, reminding me of Stars (which is definitely not a bad thing) with duel girl/guy vocals and lush melodies that go from hazy & drifting to upbeat & driving. All in all and pretty good album overall. Also recommended. Deja vu! There are MP3s below for you to check out below as well!

SHOW RECOMMENDATION: Black Kids, The Lolligags, Judi Chicago, 11/15 @ The Star Bar

I love free shows & Black Kids.
Um, yeah...so Pop Death Squad is sponsoring the "Big Trouble in Little 5" showcase at The Star Bar in Little Five Points (Atlanta, GA) this Thursday (11/15) featuring those Black Kids I love so much, as well as The Lolligags (also awesome!), and Judi Chicago (whom I haven't heard yet but am looking forward to hearing). It all starts at 9pm, and it's FREE, FREE, FREE, FREE, FREE! Between the awesome-ness that these bands will undoubtedly bring in spades, and that amazing ticket price...this is a no-brainer, just show up (unless you're under 21. I assume it's 21+ up, since it's a bar).
The Black Kids & The Lolligags are also playing on Friday in Athens:
Fri. 11/16/07 - Black Kids, Lolligags @ Flicker Theatre (Athens, GA)
(tickets for this show are extremely limited, purchase tickets at Wuxtry)

Come sail away, come sail away...
Man, this week has been rough...I wish I could chill out on a yacht like these guys. Great song BTW, the new album on which it will appear comes out January 29 via XL.

RADIOHEAD "Entanglement" webcast, 11/08/07
Here is the Youtube version of Radiohead's "Entanglement" webcast (in two parts) from last night on Radiohead.tv. They cover Björk’s "Unravel" in Part 2, quite excellently I might add.

GREAT NEW MUSIC: Soulsavers "It's Not How Far You Fall, It's The Way You Land"
I love it when a new album shows up and surprises me in almost every way. First off, I wasn't even aware of this project until the CD showed up a few days ago. Apparently, Soulsavers are an UK production and remix team comprised of members Rich Machin and Ian Glover, and this latest album features Mark Lanegan on vocals for 8 of the 11 tracks. As well as Will Oldham, who provides backing vocals with Mark on one track (Through My Sails). I absolutely love Mark's vocals, so the album was already off to a good start. Musically, the album infuses country, down-tempo electronica, gospel, and some Indian-influence as well...all of which help create one hell of an album. I'm on my third run-thru, and it's only getting better...I highly suggest you check this album out.

ON REPEAT: Jupiter Watts / The Color Wheels
I really wish I had more time to go into more details about both of these amazing bands, but between being sick and now trying to play catch-up at work, this will be a slim post. But don't let that sway you from checking both of them out, these bands have been in HEAVY rotation around here lately, and for good reason...they're both undeniably excellent...and very catchy.

Retread Sessions: Do Make Say Think "A Tender History in Rust"
About a month ago, I posted some of KUT 90.5's (Austin, TX) wonderful Retread Sessions (Shearwater, YACHT, Black Before Red) here. Well, they're back with another fine installment, this time from Do Make Say Think performing "A Tender History in Rust" in a field. Looks like it was a beautiful day to film.

Being sick on Halloween...blows.
Sorry about no posts yesterday, I was feelin' a little run down. I felt bad for the kids who came by my house yesterday, because I just shut the lights off and went to sleep. No candy for you, and too much sleep for me. Oh well, Happy November First everybody!!! Here are some new videos to help you celebrate.

NEW MUSIC: Songs From The Bigtop
Devon Reed, whose new independent film, "The Bigtop"(which comes out sometime in 2008), has done something pretty extraordinary for his soundtrack besides just recruit great indie bands like Tullycraft, Doug Martsch, The Clientele & Lisa Germano to play on it. He wrote all the songs, and got the great indie bands to play/record them. Pretty cool. Here's what he had to say about it: “Each artist was a different story but, in general, I was a fan before I became a collaborator. Also, we tried to assign proper tracks to people. So wistful, playful artists got songs we wanted to be wistful and playful and the rocking tracks went to bands that could do them justice.”
The soundtrack is out now via iTunes and various independent music stores.
Songs From the Bigtop:
01 Lisa Germano: "Magic"
02 The Clientele: "Your Song"
03 Michael Leviton: "I Only Want the Sky"
04 Damien Jurado: "Ashes"
05 Matthew Sweet: "Wild"
06 Tullycraft: "The Girl Who's Above Us"
07 Howe Gelb: "Falling in Love"
08 The Owls: "I Just Can't Keep Up"
09 Communiqué: "Way to Walk"
10 Marbles: "Something, Nothing, Everything"
11 Eleventh Dream Day: "Planning My Escape"
12 Doug Martsch: "Cracked and Crazed"
13 The Sprites: "Patience"
