WHIRLYBALL SHOW: Black Lips, Gentleman Jesse & His Men, Baby Shakes, Coffin Bound

Henry over at Chunklet Magazine has done it again. Another Whirlyball Atlanta show, where the ticket is a 7" featuring unreleased songs from all the bands involved: Black Lips, Gentleman Jesse & His Men, Baby Shakes AND Coffin Bound...all for only $11 bucks!! It goes down on January 19th at Whirlyball Atlanta in Roswell with doors open @ 8pm. It is on sale exclusively through the insanely awesome Criminal Records in Atlanta (466 Moreland Ave., Atlanta, GA 30307). Hope to see some folks out for this, it should be a fuckin' blast!!

Black Lips CD Release Show Tonight, 9/11

Just a quick reminder that Atlanta's own Black Lips are playing an "invite only" CD release show tonight (9/11) @ MJQ Concourse in Atlanta for their "ICTH Recommended" new full-length "Good Bad Not Evil". On July 29, 2007, Mastodon, Deerhunter, Black Lips, Snowden, the Selmanaires, Shannon Wright, The Coathangers, The Carbonas, The Liverhearts, The Mighty Hannibal, Delia Gartrell, and the All Night Drug Prowling Wolves performed one song each at 54 Moreland Ave. in Atlanta as part of the Brendan Canty (Fugazi) & Christoph Green DVD series, "Burn To Shine". The DVD series, which documents a particular city's bands performing in a space slated for demolition, has already completed similar sets in Washington (DC), Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), Chicago (IL), and Louisville (KY). Much thanks to Chad Radford for posting pics of the Atlanta set (all of the above photos were taken by Chad).

You can purchase Vol. 1-3 via the Trixie DVD website as a bundle package (with a reduced price) now. No word yet when Vol.4 (Seattle), Vol. 5 (Louisville) or Vol. 6 (Atlanta) will be released, but you can bet I'll first in line when they are.

NEW SONG: Black Lips "Cold Hands"

I can't say it enough...I love me some Lips. "Eager anticipation" is the phrase d'jour when it comes to Black Lips related news. The newest single Cold Hands, which has already surfaced in the form of a video, from the Black Lips forthcoming album, "Good Bad Not Evil" is now available as an MP3 for those of you who like to listen in their car on the way to...somewhere. The Black Lips are playing Atlanta's seediest strip club (I use the term "strip club" loosely with this place since most of the "strippers" are over 40 or pregnant), The Clermont Lounge on Aug. 16th w/ The Subsonics brought to you by the fine upstanding folks over at Rob's House Records. (And yes Rich, I'm sure it WILL be nothing short of ridiculous...in a very, very fun way.)

Black Lips: New album & video!!

If you are a purveyor of fine music, then chances are you are familiar with the Black Lips and their muy caliente awesomeness. I am still in love with their last album, "Los Valientes Del Mondo Nuevo" (which was recorded live in Tijuana, somewhere near that zebra-donkey above)....but I've been secretly lusting after a studio offering, and low and behold...the new studio album "Good Bad Not Evil" comes out Sept.11th!!! Hippie, Hippie, Hoorah!! They'll be heading out for a fall tour with another "love interest" of mine, The Selmanaires starting Sept. 12th in Athens, GA. If you haven't checked out a Black Lips show before, I suggest you do. They are quite the little maniacs. :-)
